Coffee Ice Cubes

12 Sep

Coffee ice cubes has gotta be the most useful thing we discovered. It’s a great way to add the taste of coffee to a drink while keeping it chilled without diluting the tastes. And it’s so damn pretty in your drink, it leaves tiny dark trails as it melts. Gorgeous.

The making of coffee ice cubes is incredibly simple! What you’ll need is ground coffee, a French Press, and water. And an ice tray, of course.

Coffee Ice Cubes - What You Need

Bon Cafe Ground Coffee; French Press

The recipe:
20g coffee grounds
1 French Press
Water (room temperature)
1 ice tray

The 1st step is to make cold brew coffee. Pour the coffee grounds into the French Press. Next, pour the room temperature water in till full. Give it a good stir and put the lid on leaving the plunger up. Pop this into the fridge and let it steep for about 12 hours. (You can prepare this the night before and leave it overnight. 12 hours seems like a lot of hours, but sleep always makes time move faster.)

Alright, once the cold brew coffee’s done, pour it into your ice tray and pop it in the freezer. It should take about 2 hours to freeze completely, depending on your fridge capacity and settings. I usually just leave it in the freezer while I head off to work and voila! Beautiful cold brew coffee ice cubes.

Now, you could also use instant coffee to make coffee ice cubes as it completely cuts out the 12-hour steep period but I’ll have to warn you, it’s drastically inferior in terms of taste. However, if all you need is that bitter coffee flavour then, by all means do it.

The recipe:
3 tsp instant coffee
Hot water
1 ice tray

Spoon the instant coffee into a coffee mug and then pour a little hot water in to dissolve the coffee. Stir until it’s well incorporated then top the rest of the cup with room temperature water and stir. Next, pour the kopi O into your ice tray and pop it into the freezer. It should be done in about 2 hours. These cubes are a lot blacker and looks more visually appealing but again, I stress that the taste is far inferior to the cold brew coffee ice cubes.

Finally, just have fun. I always have a bowl of coffee ice cubes in my fridge just in case. It’s a great pick-me-up too for people on-the-go. Pop one in your mouth as you bergegas out of the house and your daily traffic madness would go a lot differently.
